Historia juvenil con final aterrador.
Until Dawn sigue la historia de ocho amigos que se reúnen en un aislado refugio en las montañas. La trama se desarrolla durante una sola noche, donde las decisiones del jugador afectan directamente el curso de los acontecimientos y determinan quién sobrevive.
Todo comienza con una pesada broma ideada por los miembros del grupo, con la intención de exponer los sentimientos de una de las chicas hacia uno de los chicos. Sin embargo, la broma sale mal y provoca la trágica muerte accidental de uno o más integrantes. Años después, los amigos deciden reunirse nuevamente para rendir homenaje a sus compañeros fallecidos, sin imaginar que algo mucho más siniestro los aguarda en ese lugar.
Gameplay con decisiones difíciles y vidas en juego.
El remake de Until Dawn destaca desde el inicio por sus mejoras visuales, aunque presenta ciertos problemas en modelos y la iluminación, que en algunos casos no generan el mismo impacto que en el original. Esto podría deberse a errores que, probablemente, serán solucionados en futuras actualizaciones. Aunque las mejoras gráficas no son necesariamente malas, sí se pierde algo del encanto único del juego original, y en algunas escenas, la oscuridad excesiva hace difícil seguir a los personajes. A pesar de los cambios, estos no amplían significativamente la trama, salvo por algunos momentos clave.
El prólogo ampliado es una adición interesante, proporcionando mayor contexto a los personajes y sus relaciones desde el inicio. Aunque el juego original se caracterizaba por un ritmo bien equilibrado, el remake expande algunas secciones, ofreciendo más información y ayudando a profundizar en la historia.
En términos de jugabilidad, Until Dawn adopta una perspectiva en tercera persona sobre el hombro, algo diferente al ángulo de cámara fijo del original, aunque este último se mantiene en algunas áreas. El cambio en la cámara le da un toque moderno, similar a lo que se ve en títulos como Dead Space, y permite una mejor visión del entorno. Además, las mejoras en accesibilidad y usabilidad, como la mecánica «No te muevas», se han ajustado para ser más inclusivas, pero sin perder la tensión característica de esas secuencias, especialmente gracias al DualSense.
Una de las principales novedades es la introducción del tótem del Hambre, que se suma a las cinco categorías de tótems originales. Estos elementos permiten vislumbrar futuros posibles según las decisiones del jugador, ayudando a decidir qué camino tomar. Los tótems siguen siendo una parte esencial del juego, pero ahora incluyen una nueva capa de interacción: debes rotarlos para encontrar el ángulo correcto y desbloquear la premonición, un cambio que puede ser divisivo, pero que personalmente encuentro interesante.
Gráficamente, el remake mejora las texturas, animaciones e iluminación, aunque hay algo del juego original de 2015 que permanece inolvidable. Tal vez sea la sensación de estar jugando una película de terror de clase B, o la oscuridad que envolvía ciertas escenas de manera más efectiva en el pasado. A pesar de estas diferencias, el remake logra recrear la atmósfera de tensión y ansiedad que definía al juego.
Uno de los cambios más notables es la eliminación de la icónica canción O’Death, que marcaba la apertura del juego original. Aunque la nueva pieza musical es moderna y adecuada, no logra alcanzar la misma profundidad emocional que la original, lo cual podría decepcionar a los fanáticos.
En cuanto al contenido adicional, se han añadido algunas áreas para explorar y secuencias renovadas, aunque no alteran significativamente la trama. No hay grandes revelaciones nuevas sobre los personajes, pero sí pequeños detalles que añaden valor a la exploración.
Sin embargo, el movimiento dentro del juego sigue siendo un área que necesita mejora. Los personajes pueden acelerar y desacelerar de manera inconsistente, y la falta de un botón para correr afecta la fluidez. Además, cambiar de dirección puede ser complicado, sobre todo con el cambio de ángulos de cámara.
Por último, como en el original, los rasgos de los personajes y sus relaciones siguen siendo visibles, aunque no influyen directamente en la jugabilidad. Aunque los rasgos como honestidad o valentía están presentes, no afectan las decisiones o acciones de los personajes en el transcurso del juego.
En general, el remake de Until Dawn logra modernizar un clásico sin perder su esencia, aunque con algunos ajustes necesarios en áreas como el movimiento y ciertos elementos visuales. Es una oportunidad perfecta para que los nuevos jugadores lo descubran, y para que los fanáticos del original revivan la experiencia con un toque fresco.
Apartado técnico.
El salto visual es evidente en este remake, con muchos elementos completamente retocados y reconstruidos desde cero. En la versión de PS5, no encontré problemas significativos, ni bugs ni fallos gráficos notables. El juego se mantiene estable a 30 fps, sin caídas de rendimiento que pudieran afectar la experiencia, al menos durante mi análisis. En términos técnicos, puedo afirmar que el juego está bien optimizado para la consola de PlayStation, ofreciendo una experiencia fluida y consistente.
Apartado Artístico y Banda sonora.
Until Dawn recibe un notable lavado de cara en comparación con la versión de 2015, no solo en texturas y iluminación, sino también con un cambio en la perspectiva de la cámara que ofrece una experiencia más fresca. Lo que solía ser una película interactiva se transforma en algo aún más impresionante gracias al salto gráfico y a la mejora en la profundidad de los colores. Desde el manicomio hasta las criaturas, cada detalle está meticulosamente trabajado, y los paisajes tétricos en varias áreas son simplemente espectaculares.
En cuanto al sonido, el juego conserva la esencia de la entrega original, pero con un toque más contemporáneo que se adapta a la atmósfera. Los efectos de sonido, la música y las actuaciones de voz han sido mejoradas para transmitir la misma intensidad que caracterizaba al original, a la vez que se introducen elementos nuevos y se realizan cambios en la música del menú temático.
En conclusión.
Until Dawn es un remake que entiende lo que los aficionados a este tipo de juegos desean y lo ofrece sin introducir cambios innecesarios. Las modificaciones realizadas son sutiles y, en su mayoría, enriquecen la experiencia en lugar de restarle valor. No es un remake para aquellos que busquen algo radicalmente diferente, pero si anhelas una experiencia más interactiva para tus noches de cine, te costará encontrar una opción mejor (o más adecuada para la temporada). Es un título altamente recomendable para quienes disfrutan de juegos interactivos y de terror, y su impresionante renovación visual lo hace aún más atractivo. Así que, si eres un amante de este estilo de juego, no dudes en probar este remake.
