ADVERTENCIA: esto es un DLC que está situado exactamente después del final de Persona 3 Reload, por lo que es imposible no hacer spoilers, así que si no has terminado la historia de Persona 3 Reload, no continúes leyendo, por el contrario, si ya la terminaste… empecemos.
Atlus se tomó la tarea de ser su propia competencia este 2024, ¿por qué? Pues sólo basta con revisar con detenimiento los inmensos títulos que han salido bajo su mando este año. Empezando con Persona 3 Reload en febrero, juego del que hablaremos nuevamente pero ahora desde el punto de vista de su DLC, pasamos a marzo con Unicorn Overlord, junio con Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance y Metaphor: ReFantazio ahora en octubre… es simplemente demasiado.
De todos estos juegos hemos hablado aquí en GameOverLA y también ya estamos trabajando en el review de Metaphor: ReFantazio, por lo que es solo cuestión de tiempo para que cual guantelete de Thanos, nos hayamos hecho con todos los títulos de Atlus este año.
Sin más rodeos vamos a lo que vinimos, empecemos a hablar del dolor.
La Respuesta a través del duelo.
En psicología, según el modelo Kübler-Ross, el duelo está dividido en 5 fases o etapas, que son:
- La negación
- La ira
- La negociación
- La depresión
- La aceptación
¿Por qué expongo esto? Pues básicamente porque esto es lo que trabajamos durante toda la trama del DLC. Luego de que Makoto cumpliera su promesa al regazo de Aigis, tiempo después vemos que han seguido su vida como pueden. Pues no perdieron a cualquier persona cercana, perdieron a la persona que en los últimos meses se había vuelto su confidente más íntimo, en ocasiones su pañuelo de lágrimas o en otros momentos un compañero para celebrar grandes momentos de alegría, no importa que miembro del S.E.E.S. observes, todos tuvieron una relación bastante íntima con Makoto.
Aquí es donde entra Aigis quien está sufriendo a sobremanera luego de haber elegido vivir como una persona su vida, porque no cumplió con su promesa. Básicamente la promesa que sirvió como su despertar verdadero… Aigis está sufriendo tanto que mejor decidió abandonar la escuela y volver al laboratorio a modo de “escapar” de los lugares donde nuestro protagonista frecuentaba, pues el dolor era demasiado como para soportarlo. Todos estaban llevando su duelo de forma distinta y se entiende: después de todo no hay un manual para estas cosas, cada quien hace lo que le nace, lo que entiende que es correcto. Y esto en parte justifica el comportamiento de algunos personajes pero de eso hablaremos un poco más adelante.
Avanzando un poco en la historia nos encontramos en un momento de absoluta confusión, donde sin ir más lejos conocemos a Metis… una androide con las mismas cualidades que Aigis. La llegada de Metis trae consigo la revelación mayor: el Abyss of Time (abismo del tiempo), que es donde se desenvolverá toda la aventura.
Ya sin intención de revelar más información del DLC, procederemos a decir que la confusión y el sufrimiento serán dos prendas que llevarán nuestros personajes durante su aventura, con la finalidad de encontrar ponerle fin a esto y a su vez encontrar una respuesta, cueste lo que cueste y enfrentándose a quien tengan que enfrentarse.
El tiempo como un abismo de arena.
El Abyss of Time es nuestro Tartarus 2.0 sin ir más lejos, y justo aquí empiezan los problemas, pequeños, pero están. Resulta un poco tedioso tener que volver a ejecutar el mismo principio de exploración por tanto tiempo (unas 10 o 15 horas, dependiendo como juegues). Esto perfectamente pudo haber durado un poco menos o sencillamente hacer una modificación distinta a este apartado, como que nuevos diseños de Shadows que no sean solamente re-colores y que no se extienda por hasta +20 pisos una run completa.
En esta entrega Atlus nos brinda un nivel de personaje base “alto” (que pudo ser más, al menos nivel 40 sugeriría), una obtención más sencilla del Shuffle Time, un spam de Monad Doors de hasta 3 puertas por piso entre otras mejoras que facilitan el farmeo y el grindeo, para que no tengas que meterle horas muertas a los antes citados, además de que el leveling system está claramente trabajado para que la experiencia que reciben los personajes sumen mucho más.
La premisa es bastante sencilla: avanza hasta que veas un jefe final, repite. Y en medio de todo esto hay exploración. Y por supuesto, al derrotar a cada jefe, vas consiguiendo valioso “lore”.
La esencia del juego cambia porque no tenemos que estar trabajando en absoluto nuestros “Social Links” y solo enfocarnos en avanzar. Por lo que en consecuencia hay varios puntos que están modificados para nuestra conveniencia y poder usar otras mecánicas ya típicas del juego base.
Antes de pasar al siguiente punto quisiera aclarar: el juego es tan magnífico como su juego base. El tema está en que se siente extendido de más. Ahora, dicho esto, pasemos al penúltimo punto a tratar.
Los personajes: su desarrollo y comportamiento.
¿Recuerdan las etapas que listamos casi al inicio? Pues aquí es donde entran más en juego. Algunos personajes al inicio tenían unos comportamientos que francamente me desagradaron de inmediato, luego de estar jugando y explorando lo que había en sus mentes, lo que callaban… podemos darnos cuenta que ellos están atravesando el duelo con estas posturas. Y me atrevo a ir más lejos: cada uno de ellos representa alguna de las fases expuestas.
A nivel de personajes y su desarrollo más allá del que conocemos, realmente no se aporta mucho. Sin embargo, en función de exploración de los sentimientos de estos es donde ocurre la historia que nos interesa. Y ya que hablamos de este aspecto, valdría la pena destacar que la historia en general no avanza mucho. El tema central está claro desde un inicio así que no esperen las complejas historias que Atlus nos ha ido vendiendo desde hace algún tiempo en sus Persona, tómenlo como lo que es: contenido adicional.
El gameplay a grandes rasgos.
Ya hemos señalado algunos aspectos que ocurren en el juego como el Shuffle Time y demás, pero solo para aclarar: todo en el gameplay se queda exactamente igual salvo que ahora controlas a Aigis. Todo es idéntico por lo que no tienes que volver a aprender controles o tener un conflicto cuando decidas jugar uno o el otro.
Algo que cabe destacar es que las mecánicas “Ambush” de Aigis son vastamente superiores a las de Makoto. Debido a que como ella “dispara”, puede atacar los enemigos a distancia, y también modificar mucho su Ambush Dash hasta volverlo verdaderamente útil.
Veredicto final: es momento de superar el dolor… juntos.
Si bien es cierto que tal vez US$ 35.00 suena a mucho para un DLC tan relativamente corto… siempre queda la opción donde puedes esperar. No hay que estar impacientes… si, es cierto que es una buena adición a la historia pero no una locura de proporciones épicas a nivel narrativo como para volvernos locos, por lo que está bien esperar un poco. En todo caso es siempre bueno recibir más contenido del que probablemente para muchos es el mejor juego del año 2024. En lo personal es de mis claros candidatos a GOTY en las premiaciones y a eso súmale los demás títulos de Atlus.
Siempre saquen tiempo para jugar.
“Persona 3 Reload” está disponible ya para Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 y Steam desde el 2 de febrero del año 2024. El DLC “Episode Aigis – The Answer” está disponible desde el 10 de septiembre del año 2024.
