Para los que vivimos toda la era de los 90’s en adelante, los platformers siempre fueron una parte esencial de nuestra dieta de videojuegos. Con cientos de títulos que salían mes tras mes, este tipo de juego se volvió super saturado y, debido a esa saturación, mostró una calidad cuestionable en muchos de los lanzamientos.
Todo cambió con el lanzamiento de DK Country en el SNES. Este título fue un gran éxito comercial y crítico, y hasta el día de hoy, después de 30 años, sigue siendo la inspiración de muchos juegos que lo utilizan como base fundamental, tanto mecánica como en diseño. Luego, en la PlayStation 1, se lanzó un pequeño título con un personaje similar a Taz: Crash Bandicoot, un platformer que, aunque tomó inspiración de DK, forjó su propio camino en el mundo de los videojuegos.
Todo este preámbulo es para hablar de un nuevo título que sale este 15 de octubre de 2024: Nikoderiko: The Magical World. Un juego que, con un simple vistazo a sus tráilers, tiene clara inspiración en DK y Crash Bandicoot. ¿Qué tal esta nueva propuesta del estudio Vea Games? Veamos en este review de Nikoderiko: The Magical World.
Historia
Nikoderiko, como todo buen platformer, tiene una premisa básica. Niko y Luna, los personajes principales del juego, encuentran una reliquia mágica y poderosa. Como es de esperar, el villano principal, Grimbald, les roba este artefacto, y ahora nuestros personajes deben perseguirlo para vencerlo, recuperar el artefacto y salvar el mundo. Es una historia simple que sirve como excusa para avanzar por los siete niveles del juego. Como en todo buen platformer, no se necesita más que una narrativa básica que inicie la historia y listo.
Gameplay
A nivel jugable, Nikoderiko toma inspiración de DK Tropical Freeze y Crash Bandicoot. De hecho, el juego, jocosamente, es considerado el hijo de DK y Crash Bandicoot, ya que comparte la misma jugabilidad de ambos títulos.
Habiendo dicho esto, ¿qué podemos esperar a nivel jugable de Nikoderiko?
- Mapas donde elegiremos los niveles a jugar e iremos avanzando en la historia.
- Bosses al final de cada mapa.
- Niveles secretos.
- Coleccionables (cuatro letras por nivel: «NIKO»).
- Niveles con distintas temáticas que nos retarán de formas interesantes.
- Varios animales que podremos utilizar.
- Perspectiva 3D en algunos segmentos de los niveles (al estilo de Crash Bandicoot).
En fin, es un juego que toma varios elementos de los títulos que sirvieron como inspiración y hace un uso interesante de estas mecánicas existentes, ya sea con retos innovadores nivel tras nivel o con un diseño de mundos digno de los grandes del género. Nikoderiko no busca reinventar la rueda; toma lo que ya funciona y lo aplica excelentemente, dándonos un juego muy divertido y con un buen nivel de reto.
Apartado Gráfico y Artístico
Nikoderiko, en su apartado gráfico y artístico, toma el mismo estilo de DK Tropical Freeze. Con modelados 3D superanimados y coloridos, los niveles tienen un aspecto 3D en un plano 2D que les da profundidad y dinamismo, haciéndolos sentir más densos.
El uso de la iluminación y los trasfondos es espectacular en este juego. Se utilizan de tal manera que no solo adornan los distintos niveles, sino que también guían al jugador e incluso proporcionan pistas sobre secretos escondidos en algunas zonas. De nuevo, Nikoderiko y sus desarrolladores toman clara inspiración y hacen un uso interesante de este aspecto.
Si bien es cierto que esto hace que el juego se vea muy similar a DK, cabe destacar que el trabajo realizado en Nikoderiko es muy destacable. Sus niveles, originalidad e ingenio en el diseño son impecables y ayudan al juego a sostenerse bajo sus propios méritos. Excelente trabajo por parte del equipo; es un juego hermoso de principio a fin.
Música
En cuanto a la banda sonora, para completar todo el espectro inspiracional de los desarrolladores del juego, tenemos al Sr. David Wise, legendario compositor de toda la serie de Donkey Kong, Yooka-Laylee, entre otros, con un enorme repertorio en su currículum.
Las composiciones de David Wise se caracterizan por ser temáticas; es decir, varían según el nivel del juego. Un nivel bajo el agua, por ejemplo, contará con una composición que evoca estar en el mar, mientras que un nivel en la nieve ofrecerá una pieza que nos transporta a ese entorno. David Wise es un maestro en este tipo de composiciones, y aquí, en Nikoderiko, nuevamente nos da cátedra de por qué es una leyenda en la industria de los videojuegos.
Siguiendo la misma temática de sus trabajos anteriores, el Sr. David Wise nos ofrece composiciones adecuadas a las temáticas de los distintos niveles a lo largo de todo el juego. Esto, junto al uso de una amplia variedad de instrumentos, nos brinda una banda sonora superdinámica, divertida, original y, sobre todo, con mucha personalidad. Es uno de los apartados más impresionantes de Nikoderiko y contribuye a elevar el juego aún más. Excelente trabajo del maestro David Wise.
Conclusión
Nikoderiko no es un juego que busca reinventar la rueda; es un título con una visión clara de lo que persigue y lo logra con creces. Lleva el manto de sus inspiraciones con orgullo y honra a estas, dándonos un juego divertido, con alta rejugabilidad, una banda sonora exquisita, niveles impresionantes y una creatividad que nos sorprende de principio a fin.
A simple vista, Nikoderiko podría parecer una simple copia de DK Tropical Freeze, pero la realidad es que es un juego hecho con mucha pasión, una pasión que se nota en cada aspecto del juego y en cada atención al detalle.
La variedad de niveles tambalea un poco en el último tramo del juego y algunas ideas no son tan interesantes como las que vemos en la primera mitad, pero el juego es divertido de principio a fin. Si eres amante de los platformers y de los juegos que inspiraron esta obra, no puedes perderte Nikoderiko.
Si buscas un juego encantador y divertido de principio a fin, Nikoderiko es una opción que no puedes dejar pasar.
